Vic: Media could be to blame for explosive mix, MAS

Victoria's ambulance service says a boy injured in a chemical explosion last night
may have learned the ingredients from media reports about another incident last weekend.

A 15-year-old Melbourne boy last night became the latest victim of a home blast, suffering
burns to his face while playing with a chemical mixture at his Langwarrin home.

This follows an incident at the weekend where a 12-year-old boy suffered burns to his
face, chest and arms when chemicals he and a friend were experimenting with exploded on
a property west of Melbourne.

Metropolitan Ambulance Service media operations group manager PAUL HOLMAN says a victim
of that blast told paramedics he got information about making an explosive mixture off
the Internet.

And he says the chemicals used in last night's incident were exactly the same ones
used in the previous explosion.

Last November, three 18-year-olds were using chemicals that exploded in the front yard
of a house in the western Melbourne suburb of Croydon.
