Vic: Four men don t want to watch firm s anti harassment video

Workers from a Melbourne cable company have asked the Industrial Relations Commission
to exempt them from being instructed about sexual harassment.

Counsel PAUL RICHARDSON, from the National Union of Workers, said it shouldn't be compulsory
for the four male workers at Olex Cables to watch a 40-minute video on sexual harassment.

Mr RICHARDSON said that between them, the four had 86 years of service to the company
and no disciplinary matters on their files.

He told the hearing the men had read the company's sexual harassment policy and felt
that was sufficient.

But GERRY PELS (Pels), an Australian Industry Group member representing the company,
said a claim had been made against the company recently in the Equal Opportunity Commission.

He said Olex had, in its defence, told the commission it had an anti-sexual harassment
policy in place.
