WA: WA government going to IRC over police pay dispute

The West Australian government will ask the state's Industrial Relations Commission
to conciliate .. in its pay dispute with police.

The WA Police Union wants a 20 per cent pay rise over two years .. but the government's
offering only 12.5 per cent over three years.

Employment Protection Minister JOHN BOWLER says the government has gone to the independent
umpire .. because negotiations with the union have stalled.

Police began industrial action over the dispute several weeks ago .. working to rule
and implementing bans on unpaid overtime and single officer patrols.
